Bahaddarhat Flyover opens to traffic

Rezaul Karim, CHITTAGONG, Jan 1: The much-awaited Bahaddarhat flyover in the port city opened to traffic on Wednesday, the first day of New Year-2014.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated a part of the Bahaddarhat Flyover for traffic on October 12 this year.

 

Bangladesh Army completed the project and Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) provided all financial supports to implement the project.

The prime minister laid the foundation stone of the project in 2010 and the project work started in 2011, said the CDA Chairman Abdus Salam adding that some Tk 145 crore was spent in implementing the project.

It can be here mentioned that at least 15 people died and 50 were injured as a portion of the under-construction flyover collapsed on November 24, 2013 due to faulty construction. After the incident the construction farm was removed and Bangladesh Army was given the responsibly to complete the rest of the work.
