Faridpur Correspondent: Mustard cultivation is now gaining ground under nine upazillas in Faridpur district.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up a massive programme for cultivation of Mustard in nine upazillas of the district during the current season.

Under the programme, 10074 hectares of land in total have been brought under mustard farming with a production target fixed at 11594 tonnes of Mustard.

According to sources in DAE, upazilla wise breakup of land and production target of Mustared is as follows: a total of 1600 hectares with a production target of 1841 tonnes in Sadar, 1200 hectares with 1381 tonnes in Char Bhadrasan, 300 hectares withe 345 tonnes in Nagarkanda, 500 hectares with 575 tonnes in Saltha, 1000 hectares with 1151 tonnes in Sadarpur, 1800 hectares with 2072 tonnes in Bhanga, 1000 hectares with 1152 tonnes in Madhukhali, 1474 hectares with 1696 tonnes in Boalmari and 1200 hectares with 1381 tonnes in Alfadanga upazilla.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) this year has supplied seeds to the farmers at fair price, it is learnt.

The output of Mustard may exceed the production target if climate favors, some farmers of Sadar upazilla said when interviewed.

“Field supervisors had already been posted in each upazilla of the district to supervise and thus make the programme a success,” sources concerned said.
