Litterateur Abdus Shakur no more

Dhaka, Jan 15 (risingbd24.com) – Noted litterateur and writer Abdus Shakur passed away at his Dhanmondi residence in the city on Tuesday. He was 72.

Family sources said the writer who had been suffering from old-age complications breathed his last around 4:40pm.

Shakur will be buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard beside his wife’s grave on Thursday after his daughter’s return from Canada.

He received many prestigious awards, including Bangla Academy Award in 1979 and Amiabhushan Award from West Bengal in 2003, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Bangla literature.

Born in Noakhali on February 25, 1941, Shakur completed his graduation and post-graduation in English literature at Dhaka University.

He wrote a good number of novels, several storybooks, essays, dramas and articles in his long literary career.
