17 killed as truck overturns in Rangpur

Staff Correspondent: At least 17 people were killed and 10 others injured as a truck carrying them overturned at Kolabari in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district on early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Rabiul Islam, Nasida Aktar, Azizul Islam, Alamgir Hossain, Delwar Hossain, Jasim Uddin, Anisuzzaman, Suporna, Kohinur Islam, Shahidul Islam, Majnu Mia, Saddam Hossain, Monir Hossain, Rafiqul Islam, Khalil Mia and two others.

Pirganj police station officer in-charge Rezaul Karim said that the Rangpur-bound cement-laden truck from Gazipur carrying a number of RMG workers overturned in the area around 5:00am, leaving 10 people dead on the spot and injured 17 others.

Later, the injured were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where seven more died under treatment.

Rangpur fire service assistant director Sultan Reza Khan said that on information, a team of fire service rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
