2 killed in Kushtia ‘gunfights’

Kushtia Correspondent: At least two people were killed in separate two ‘gunfights’ with police in the district early Wednesday.

The gunfights took place in Baradi area of Kushtia district town and Dashmail area of Bheramara.

The deceased were identified as Sobhan Ali (37), son of Nur Uddin at Monohorpur in Kumarkhali, and Hasanuzzaman Lalon (35), son of Alim Uddin at Monohordia village in Gangni.

At least seven police members were injured in the gunfights.

Police claimed that they were members of inter-district dacoit gang.

In an incident, Sobhan Ali was killed in the ‘gunfight’ held in Baradi area of Sadar upazila.

Kushtia Additional Police Super Joynal Abedin said based on the information of Sobhan, police came to Baradi Gorasthan to recover arms.

When the police personnel reached Baradi, the robber gang members opened fire to the law enforcers. In retaliation, police also fired back, triggering the gunfight.

At one stage, the robbers fled the scene and Sobhan died on the spot.

Police also recovered a foreign pistol, a local gun, two bullets and a machete from the spot.

On the other hand, tipped off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation at Dashmail in Bheramara upazila to commit robbery, a police team conducted a drive there. However, sensing the presence of the police team, the bandits swooped on them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered the gunfight, leaving Hasanuzzaman Lalan dead on the spot, according to police.

Police also recovered a short gun, one bullet and a local weapon from the spot.
