'2-yr jail if anybody transplants organs giving false info'

Senior Correspondent: If anybody transplants human organs by giving false information about the close relationship between organ donors and recipients, he/or she will face maximum two years of rigorous imprisonment or highest Tk 5 lakh fine or both the punishment, says a draft law approved by the cabinet.

The cabinet on Monday gave the final approval to the draft of "The Transplantation of Human Organs Law, 2017" keeping such provision in it.

The approval was given at the regular weekly cabinet meeting held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Additional Cabinet Secretary Ashraf Shameem briefed reporters after the meeting.

He said under the proposed law, if anybody gives false information about the close relationship between organ donors and recipients or encourage, provoke or threaten anybody to provide such information, he/or she will face maximum two years of rigorous imprisonment or highest Tk 5 lakh fine or both the punishment.

Earlier, if anybody violated this law, he/or she would face maximum seven years of rigorous imprisonment or highest Tk 3 lakh fine or both the punishment.
