Staff Correspondent: A court in Dhaka has awarded death penalty to three people in a case filed for killing Alamgir Hossain who worked at a shoe factory in the capital's Siddique bazar.

Judge Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury of the Paribesh Appeal Adalat (District & Sessions Judge) of Dhaka delivered the verdict on Thursday.

The court also fined them TK 10,000 each.

Due to their alleged robbery, the court sentenced the accused to 10 years in jail and fined them TK 5,000 each, in default of which they will have to serve three months more in jail.

The death row convicts are--Joni, 26, Hasan, 20 and Monir Hossain. Among them, Hasan and Monir are on the run.

On the night of August 13, 2009, Alamgir Hossain was stabbed when three men tried to mug him in the city’s Shyampur area. Later, he was slaughtered to death.

The victim’s family filed a case in this connection and police pressed charges against the three on 22 November that year.

After examining 14 witnesses and documents, Environment Appeal Court Judge Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury delivered the verdict of the case today.
