4 held with fake Bidi band-roll in Rangpur

Police arrested four persons with 7.70-lakh pieces of fake Bidi band-roll worth about Taka 60-lakh from Bachachatari village in Haragachh Thana of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) of the district on Monday.
RpMP Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Kazi Muttaqi Ibn Minan said this in a briefing Tuesday afternoon.
He said, “On a tip off, a special operational team of Haragachh Thana of RpMP raided the village and arrested three persons, including two women, with fake Bidi band-roll from their respective houses.”
Later, as per confession of the arrested persons, police arrested another person of their syndicated gang in Haragachh municipality area in this connection.
The arrested persons are: Abdul Jalil alias Bang Jalil, 55, Golapi Begum, 45, Sultana Begum, 30, and Mohammad Sama, 55.
During primary interrogation, the arrested persons admitted their involvement in trading with fake Bidi band-roll in connivance with each-other for a long time to assist the local Bidi Factories in evading huge government revenue annually.
“Police filed a case in this connection with Haragachh Thana of RpMP and produced them before a Rangpur court from where they were sent to jail hajat after producing,” he added.
