40,000 people marooned in Kurigram

Kurigram Correspondent: Nearly 40,000 people have been marooned by monsoon flood in Kurigram district, officials claimed on Saturday.

Water Development Board sources said the Darla River is flowing near danger mark with a rise of 22 centimeters (CM) water in the past 24 hours.

More than hundred villages of 20 unions have gone under water following the surging water level in the River.

Due to the floods, 40 thousand people were trapped by water. The villagers are trying to communicate each other by raft and small boats as the roads went under water.

Water Development Board executive engineer Shafiqul Islam said that water of the Darla River is flowing 22 centimeters above its danger mark while the water of Brahmaputra River is flowing 38 centimeter below at Chilmari point.
