5 TVs to air one minute's free programme on child issues

Staff Correspondent: Country's leading Television channels have agreed to allot one minute air coverage on child issues free of cost in their prime time.

The TV channels have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF) with an aim to highlight child rights.

Basically, the one minute programme will include issues of child rights, child labours, and related awareness events.

The signing ceremony was held at a hotel in the capital on Tuesday. With this signing, the TV channels will broadcast one minute's free programme on children during prime time.

While talking about the signing, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said the role of mass media for children has moved ahead through this MoU signing. The media has partnered with the government and UNICEF in the welfare of children through this signing, he said.

These TV channels will air news and short-length videos prepared by children. UNICEF will produce public service announcements (PSA) under the guidance of relevant ministry to promote priority issues related to children's well-being, which will be aired by the TV channels.

The TV channels which took part in the signing ceremony included Ekattor TV, Ekushey TV, Duronto TV, Bijoy TV and Bangla TV.
