Anti-militant raid underway in Gaibandha, 6 arrested

Gaibandha Correspondent: Law enforcers are conducting anti-militant operation at Sundarganj in Gaibandha for the fourth day, as a part of massive raid across the district begun from Tuesday last.

Members of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit accompanied by the district police begun the operation at different char areas of Sundarganj upazila around 3:00am on Sunday.

Six people were arrested in the drive till 7:00am.

Atiar Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sundarganj Police Station, confirmed the news.

He said, "A team of over 50 cops, led by the district Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdullah Al-Faruk, is conducting drives at different areas including Charkhorda and Belka of the upazila to trace out militant hideouts, to arrest terrorists and to prevent boat robbery.

Six people were arrested in the raid till 7:00am. They all are convicted and accused in regular cases, he added.

On the first day, law enforcers conducted the raid at different places of Kamarjani and Mollarchar under Gaibandha sadar upazila on Tuesday.

A robber named Ayub Ali alias Shukur Ali, 30, was held in the drive.

On the second day, the team led the drive at different places of Fulchhari upazila.

On the third day, law enforcers conducted the drive at different areas of Saghata upazila on Saturday.

However, nobody was arrested on the day and no hideout was found.
