BCL leader injured in hammer beating dies

Lakshmipur Correspondent: A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader, who was injured after being hit by a hammer in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur district, died around 10:00am on Sunday at a hospital in Noakhali.

The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 28, the general secretary of Char Abdullah union unit Chhatra League in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur district.

Lakshmipur district BCL General Secretary Rakib Hossain Lotus said, “Dacoit Khokon and his men called in BCL leader Nazrul and his brother Sheikh Farid and later beat them with hammer, leaving them injured.”

Meanwhile, district Chhatra League brought out a demonstration in the city protesting the killing of the BCL leader.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) M Iqbal Hossain of Ramgati Police Station said, “An injured youth died at a Noakhali hospital. A legal action will be taken in this regard.”

Earlier on last Wednesday, a group of dacoits beat BCL leader Nazrul and his brother Sheikh Farid, leaving the duo critically injured.
