'Business conf fails to get permission as not sought in time'

Staff Correspondent: Conference on Yunus Centre’s Social Business Day, scheduled to begin in Savar tomorrow, was not allowed as the authority did not apply in time seeking security, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque.

The police chief said this at a press briefing in police headquarters on Thursday afternoon.

It is not possible to ensure security for the seventh International Social Business Conference of Nobel prize winner Dr Mohammad Yunus within a very short span of time, the IGP said.

The conference was scheduled to be held on July 28-29, 2017 with participants from 34 countries. But the organiser on July 23 sought security only from superintendent of police in Dhaka without informing police headquarters, security agencies and concerned ministries. That's why, it was not given permission considering security issues, Shahidul told the press briefing.

Participants from 34 countries had registered to take part in the function at the newly built Samajik Convention Centre in Zirabo of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
