Chief Shipping engineer remanded in bribery case

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has placed Chief Engineer and Surveyor of the Shipping Department AKM Fakhrul Islam on two-day remand in a case filed for taking bribe.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas passed the order after hearing in the case on Wednesday.

Earlier, deputy director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Ibrahim Hossain, also Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced him before the court and sought five-day remand for fair investigation and to uncover the real fact.

A team led by ACC's Dhaka Divisional Director Nasim Anwar arrested Fakhrul while taking bribe worth Tk 5 lakh at his office on Tuesday.
