Dais made to pay homage to Holey Artisan victims

Staff Correspondent: In order to pay tributes to those killed in the terrorist attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka’s Gulshan area, a dais has been made in front of the restaurant. For this, the restaurant will remain open tomorrow for four hours.

Authorities concerned said the restaurant will remain open for all from 10:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday.

Confirming the matter to risingbd.com on Friday evening, Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station, said, “The restaurant has been handed over to its owners. Now it’s up to the owners how and when they will keep it open. Police are now thinking of security for the people who will come tomorrow there to pay homage to those killed in the terrorist attack.”

Ali Arslan, one of its owners, said, “Many people including foreign nationals were killed in the terrorist attack on July 1, 2016. Their relatives will come here tomorrow to pay tributes. Considering this thing, all of its owners have decided to keep the restaurant open for four hours. A tall-size dais wrapped in white cloth has been made in front of the restaurant to pay homage to the victims.”

It is learnt that the Holey Artisan Bakery was under the supervision of law enforcement agencies about four and a half month after it came under militant attack. Police on November 13, 2016 gave back the charge of the restaurant to its owners.

Mentionable, on July 1, a group of armed gunmen attacked Holey Artisan Bakery, an upscale restaurant on Road 79 of Gulshan and killed 22 people including foreign nationals after a 12-hour long hostage situation.
