De Kock shatters Adam Gilchrist’s world record

South Africa wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock created a world record on Day 3 of the fourth and final Test against England at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

The Proteas keeper grabbed three catches in the first innings and four in the second, making a total tally of seven catches in the match, which helped De Kock to become the fastest wicketkeeper in the history of Test cricket to complete 200 dismissals.

De Kock achieved the milestone in 45 games, surpassing former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist, who reached the feat in 47 Tests.

De Kock now has 202 dismissals – 191 catches and 11 stumpings. He is second among South Africans, after Mark Boucher who is sitting at the top in ‘most dismissals in career’ list with 555 dismissals.

Among current active wicket-keepers, De Kock sits at the second spot. New Zealander BJ Watling tops the current slot with 227 dismissals in the longest format of the game.

Meanwhile, on Day 3, a total of 14 wickets fell as South Africa were bowled out for 183 in their first innings. England were dismissed for 248 in their second innings giving hosts a mammoth target of 466 to level the four-match series 2-2.
