MA Rahman: The documents of ill-fated capsized launch Pinak-6 and MV Miraj-4 have been disappeared, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) sources confirmed risingbd.com today.
On August 4, 2014, an ill-fated launch Pinak-6 capsized in the Padma River in Munshiganj area with around 200 passengers on board that claimed over 100 lives in the incident.
And the launch MV Miraj-4 sank during a storm near Gozaria Launch Ghat in the district with more than a hundred passengers on board while heading for Sureshwar in Shariatpur from Sadarghat in Dhaka on May 15 last year.
“Department of Shipping could not provide us the documents in this regard till now while the commission asked documents frequently,” one of the high officials of ACC told risingbd.com seeking his anonymity.
After capsizing incident, the authorities concerned suspended the ship surveyor Mirza Saifur Rahman of the shipping department for his negligence in performing duties during the period and the committee that was formed to probe the incident also proved this negligence later.
Rapid Action Battalion arrested Bakar Siddique Kalu, the owner of passenger launch ‘ML Pinak-6’ from his relative`s house in Agrabad Housing area in Chittagong city after the incidents. He went into hiding after the launch tragedy.
Abu Bakar is one of the six accused in the case filed with Louhojang Police Station after the vessel capsized in the choppy waters of the Padma on August 4.
The members of RAB-1 also detained the son of the owner of Pinak-6.
Two probe committees had also been formed to look into the incident of launch capsize in the River.
Among the two, Shipping Ministry formed a seven member committee to investigate the incident headed by Nurur Rahman, the joint-secretary of the ministry.
