EU to increase investment in Bangladesh

Secretariat Correspondent: European Union (EU) is keen to invest in service sector in Bangladesh.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said this after a meeting on ‘Bangladesh- European Union trade environment’ at the Secretariat on Thursday.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said the EU's demand was to increase their participation in the service sector by 40 percent. Bangladesh has agreed in principle on it. As a result, the EU investment will increase from 40 percent to 49 percent.

The EU has been urged to invest in 100 special economic zones, said Commerce Minister.
He said that Bangladesh is not getting fair prices of ready-made garments due to inflation in the European Union and the UK. There are 270 green (environmentally friendly) factories in Bangladesh. A lot of money has been spent to make them. Besides, the cost of raw materials and production has increased. Because of this, the EU has been requested to increase the prices of Bangladeshi products.
