Ferry service resumes on Shimulia-Kathalbari route

Ferry service has resumed on Shimulia-Kathalbari route after five and half hours.

The service began at 12.30 pm on Thursday.

The ferry service on the Shimulia-Kathalbari river route was closed at about 7:00am to avoid any accident after the Padma river devoured Shimulia Ferry Ghat No-4 early Thursday.

Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Foysal Ahmed confirmed this.

Erosion by the Padma river has turned serious in Shimulia Ferry Ghat area of Munshiganj.

In the interval of nine days, two out of four ferry ghats of Shimulia went under the water.

The erosion is moving towards BIP Ferry Ghat 2.

Earlier, the third Ro-Ro ferry ghat drowned on July 28.
