Flood situation worsens in Kurigram

Kurigram Correspondent: The flood situation in Kurigram district has worsened as water of all rivers including Brahmaputra, Dharla, Teesta and Dudhkumar has increased.

The water of Dharla River is flowing 108 centimetres above the danger level in Setu Point, Brahmaputra 20 centimetres above the red mark at Chilmari and Dudhkumar river 138 centimetres above the danger level in Pateshwari.

A woman and a child were missing after a dam collapsed in Rajarjat upazila.

About 1.50 lakh people of 54 unions of Rowmari, Rajibpur, Chilmari, Ulipur, Nageshwari, Bhurungamari, Phulbari and Sadar upazila have been marooned. The Amon paddy of 25 thousand hectares of land has gone under water. Flooded people are taking shelter in different places including educational institutions.

Kurigram- Bhurungamari road has been separated and isolated with other parts as it has submerged due to flood water.

Rail communications of Kurigram Sadar with two of its upazilas remain suspended since this morning due to flood triggered by continuous downpour over the last couple of days.

Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Abu Saleh Mohammad Ferdous Khan said that the Upazila Nirbahi Officers and Upazila and Union Parishad chairmen have been directed to face the flood situation in the district. For the flood victims, Tk 7 lakh and 250 tonnes of rice have been allocated.
