Fresh areas go under water in Kurigram

Kurigram Correspondent: Fresh areas of Kurigram district have gone under water due to the increase in water levels of all the rivers, including the Brahmaputra, Teesta and Dharla.

The Brahmaputra is flowing 32cm above the danger level at Chilmari point while the Dharala 25cm above the danger mark at the Bridge point.

More than two lakh people of over 450 villages of seven upazilas have been hit hard by the flood.

The scarcity of food and drinking water has turned acute in the flood-affected areas.

Waterborne diseases are spreading fast in the flood-hit areas while no relief or medicine has reached the victims yet.

More than 145 educational institutions have been shut down following the flood, locals said.

Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Abu Saleh Mohammad Ferdous Khan said some 250 tonnes of rice and Tk5 lakh in cash had been allocated for the flood-affected people.
