Garment workers block road, clash with police

Staff Correspondent:  Workers of a garment factory blocked a road in the capital’s Mirpur area and clashed with the police on Monday morning.

According to sources, workers of Meridian Garments blocked the Mirpur-1 road in protest against sacking their collogues in the morning.  They also vandalised several vehicles during the demonstration.

A chase and counter-chase took place when policemen tried to remove them from the road.

Several garment workers were injured as garments workers engaged in a clash with the law enforcers.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirpur Thana Nazrul Islam said the workers had been removed from the road and the situation was under control.
