Govt decision of lifting lockdown short-sighted: Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday alleged that the government’s decision to reopen offices and lifting the ban on public transports at this dangerous time of mass transmission of coronavirus infection was immature and short-sighted.

The BNP secretary general also said that the government had put the country in risk by opening everything amid the risk of coronavirus transmission.

‘The government is saying that there will be no public holiday from June 1 and public transports will be allowed on the streets. The government has taken the wrong decision from the very beginning about all these. We think that their decisions are not only immature but also short-sighted,’ he said.

Mirza Fakhrul made the statement after placing wreaths at the grave of the party founder and late president Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Banglanagar in Dhaka marking his 39th death anniversary.

The BNP leader said that people should keep staying at their houses and maintaining social distancing as the number of infections and deaths was increasing every day.

BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, Selima Rahman, and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, among others, were present at the programme.
