Govt sets Tk 330,000cr target of export earnings

Secretariat Correspondent: The government has set a target of Tk 3,30,000 crore ($4,100 crore) from export earnings for 2017-2018 fiscal year, which is 17.70 percent more than that of 2016-2017 fiscal year.

The target was set at the programme titled 'The determination and approval of export targets' held at the conference room of the Commerce Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed presided over the programme.

It may be mentioned that export earnings target was $3,700 crore for 2016-2017 fiscal year.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said in the programme that the government has taken necessary steps to increase export earnings. Decision has been taken to enhance number of export products along with expanding markets in the seventh five-year plan. Some products have been given priority in this regard."

"The products have been given priority includes readymade garments, information technologies, medicine, leather goods, agricultural products, ships, furniture. The government is giving financial assistance at different rates to export the products," he added.

The Minister said demands for Bangladeshi products are increasing in the world market day by day. Achieving the goal will not be difficult if all people concerned in the sector become sincere.
