Gulshan attack: Hasnat Karim denied bail again

Hasnat Reza Karim

Staff Correspondent: A court in Dhaka has rejected another bail petition of Hasnat Reza Karim, the lone arrestee in a case filed over Gulshan café attack.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after hearing in the case on Wednesday.

Lawyer Abdul Mannan Khan stood for Hasnat while Nazim Uddin, assistant commissioner of police's prosecution division, represented the state in the court.

After hearing the both sides, the court dismissed Hasnat’s bail petition.

Earlier, several courts rejected Hasnat’s bail showing different reasons.

Hasnat, a former teacher of North South University, was shown arrested on August 13 in the case linked with the murders of 20 hostages, including 17 foreigners, in the attack.

Earlier on July 1, five militants stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery and held diners hostage at gunpoint.

They murdered 20 hostages -- nine Italian, seven Japanese, two Bangladeshis, one Indian and one Bangladesh-born US citizen -- and two police officers who tried to end the standoff.
