Hasan Mahmud: The Bangladesh Biman is going to start its direct Hajj flight from Chittagong to Madina on Friday (August 4).

Civil aviation and tourism ministry senior public relations officer Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin on Thursday said that the first hajj flight will leave Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong for Saudi Arabia's Madina at 11:45pm on Friday.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon is scheduled to inaugurate the much-awaited flight.

Biman's General Manger (public relations) Shakil Meraz said that a total of 15 flights will carry hajj pilgrims to Jeddah and Madina from Chittagong. Of them, 13 flights will go directly to Jeddah and two flights to Madina.

Around 14,000 hajj pilgrims will use the flights from Chittagong. The flight numbers would be increased in future, he added.

This year a total of 1,27,198 pilgrims — 4,200 under government management and 1,22,998 under private management — are scheduled to go to Saudi Arabia for performing hajj.
