Journos threaten to siege Paltan Thana

Staff Correspondent: Journalist leaders threatened to siege Paltan Police Station to press home to release Daily Observer photo journalist Ashiq Mohammad within 24 hours.

They also urged newsmen not to publish any report of police until the demand is met.

Shaban Mahmood, president of Dhaka Union of Journalists, announced the programme in front of National Press Club on Saturday noon.

He   also declared fresh protest and human chain programmes to be held in front of the press club on Sunday same time.

Journalists also demanded immediate cancellation of section 57.

Journalist leader Pulak Ghatak said a patrol team of police took up Ashiq from Shantinnagar area on second night of Eid.  They also beat him. Later, they demanded one lakh taka ransom for his release.  He was later sent to jail accusing in a Yaba case as he did not pay the amount.
