Kibria`s death anniversary today

Staff Correspondent: The 10th death anniversary of former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kirbia is being observed today (Tuesday).

Awami League (AL) and different political and social- cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programs in observance of the 10th death anniversary of the slain AL leader.

Kibria Memorial Sangsad is observing the day by organizing separate programs in Dhaka and at his birth place in Habiganj.

On this day in 2005, Shah AMS Kibria, who was elected member of the parliament on Awami League ticket from Habiganj-3 (Habiganj Sadar-Lakhai) constituency in the election in 2001, suffered critical splinter injuries in a grenade attack mounted at his public rally at Baidder Bazar under Sadar Upazila at his home constituency in Habiganj district.

The former minister succumbed to his splinter injuries on way to Dhaka for better treatment.

His nephew Shah Manjurul Huda, District Awami League leaders Abdur Rahim, Abul Hossain and Siddique Ali were killed in the same grenade attack.
