'Mahfuz was maiden Aamir of JMB-India unit'

Staff Correspondent: Shohel Mahfuz alias Hatkata Mahfuz who was arrested from Shibganj of Chapainawabganj last night was the maiden Aamir of JMB-India unit, according to police.

He was also one of the master planners of the Gulshan Holey Artisan terror attack and the chief of the outfit's northern region, police claimed.

Monirul Islam, Chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told this to the reporters on Saturday afternoon.

He said, "He (Shohel Mahfuz) was the first Aamir of JMB-India unit. He was also involved in India's Khagragarh blast. West Bengal government announced a bouquet of Rs. 10 lakh award to catch him."

Monirul said,"Shohel Mahfuz played roles in designing plans to carry out Gulshan carnage. Chhoto Mizan or anybody else carried the arms and explosive used in the attack, But these were brought with the supervision of Mahfuz. Probe into the Gulshan attack case can get a lead as he was arrested."

Though there was some ambiguity over Gulshan attack, it would be cleared after interrogating him, he hoped.
