Man sentenced to death in N’ganj 5-murder

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj: A man has been awarded with the death penalty for murdering a woman, her two children and two others of the same family in Narayanganj last year.

Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Begum Hosne Ara Akter passed the verdict in presence of lone accused Mahfuz.

Besides, the court also fined him Tk 5,000.

Mahfuz  is the nephew of complainant Shafiqul Islam, who lost his wife Taslima Begum, and two children – Sumaiya,  and Shantu,  to the hands of Mahfuz. Two other victims were Taslima’s brother Morshedul and Lamia.

A day after the killing in January 16, 2016, Shafiqul filed the murder case against unidentified miscreants with Narayanganj Sadar Police Station. Mahfuz was arrested on that day.

Mahfuz later confessed that he and his associates killed the five persons.
