Mannan challenges legality of suspension order

Staff Correspondent: Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) mayor professor M A Mannan has filed a writ petition with the High Court (HC) challenging legality of his temporary suspension order issued by the local government and rural development (LGRD) ministry.
The writ petition was filed on Sunday seeking stay of the suspension order and directives of status quo to continue office.
His lawyer Abu Hanif confirmed the news in the morning.
He said the petition would be presented before the bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan.
On July 6, the LGRD ministry issued a notification suspending GCC mayor M A Mannan temporarily as he was indicted in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
It was the third time suspension order for Mannan after he won the mayoral race in 2013.
