High Court stays suspension order of Mayor Mannan

Staff Correspondent: The High Court stayed the earlier order suspending Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Mayor MA Mannan for three months.

An HC bench comprising Justice Syed Mohammad Dastogir Hossain and Justice M Ataur Rahman passed the stay order after hearing a writ plea on Sunday afternoon.

The court also issued a rule asking why the suspension order would not be declared illegal.

Earlier, MA Mannan filed a writ petition with the High Court (HC) challenging legality of his temporary suspension order issued by the local government and rural development (LGRD) ministry.

Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon moved for the petitioner in the case.

On July 6, the LGRD ministry issued a notification suspending GCC mayor M A Mannan temporarily as he was indicted in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

It was the third time suspension order for Mannan after he won the mayoral race in 2013.
