Militant network smashed in northern region

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: M Khurshid Hossain, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rajshahi range, said militant network has been smashed in the northern region of the country as Neo-JMB leader and planner of Gulshan carnage Shohel Mahfuz alias Hatkata Mahfuz was arrested.

The DIG came up with the remarks while briefing reporters at his office on Saturday noon.

He said, "We kept him in target for long days. He along with his three cohorts was finally arrested from Chapainawabganj. The militant network in the northern region has been destroyed through his arrest."

"Shohel used to commute Godagari and Tanore hideouts. He was engaged in supplying firearms and explosives to different militant dens across the country.  He was expert in making bombs. Three persons who were arrested with Shohel mainly used to give various supports to the militants," he added.

Khurshid Hossain said, "Shohel was organising Neo-JMB in the northern region. Police had information that they were planning to carry out sabotage in this region. But it was failed as police were more alert."
