Kushtia Correspondent: A seven-year old minor boy was beaten by local influential guys on suspicion of stealing a mobile phone in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia.

The brutal incident took place at Charmondalparha of Chheuria under the upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

Police on Thursday arrested two persons allegedly involved in the savagery.

Confirming the news, Abdul Khaleque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station, said a mobile phone of one Rupali of Charmondalparha was stolen four or five days ago. They suspected seven-year old orphan Jewel over the theft. Tanzil and Mir Akkas alias Miru who were locally known as influential took up the boy from his home on Wednesday afternoon. They tied him to a mango tree and beat him with sticks mercilessly, leaving him seriously injured. Later, he was given treatment at Kushtia General Hospital in the evening.

Robbel Khan, brother of the minor, filed a case against three people with Kumarkhali Police Station in this connection. On Thursday morning, police arrested Tanzil and his mother-in-law Rokey, he added.

Local residents demanded punishment for people who are involved in the brutal incident.
