Modi likely to attend opening programme of ‘Mujib Year’ 

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the opening programme of ‘The Mujib Year’ to be celebrated on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary on March 17, 2020 in Dhaka.

Nasrin Jahan Lip, Chief of media cell of the national implementation committee for father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s platinum birth jubilee celebration, confirmed the news to risingbd on Friday.

She said, “We unofficially proposed him (Modi) to the attend the programme and he also gave his consent. We hope that he will deliver a speech at the inaugural programme. However, the matter is still at primary level.”

According to Bangladesh High Commission to India, Modi will deliver the keynote speech at the programme.

Sources of Bangladesh High Commissioner to India said, High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali invited Modi to the attend the programme and he confirmed his participation.

Syed Muazzem Ali said that besides Modi, at least 39 global leaders have been invited to various programs centering Bangabandhu’s hundredth anniversary, and many of them have already confirmed their participation.

The event will launch year-long programs between 2020 and 2021, formally described as “Mujib year” celebrations.

An array of Indian leaders, along with international dignitaries, will also attend the event and the year-long celebrations, he concluded.
