Nasim's condition critical

Former health minister Mohammed Nasim is currently in ventilation support in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in the capital.

Nasim, also a presidium member of ruling Awami League, underwent an emergency brain surgery on Friday at the Bangladesh Specialised Hospital, where he was getting treatment for COVID-19.

He was unconscious till the report was filed on Saturday noon.

Nasim’s son Tanvir Shakil Joy told risingbd that nothing can be told until 72 hours go. Later, doctors will take further decision.

Meanwhile, a physician claiming anonymity told risingbd that Nasim’s condition is critical. Ventilation would be off on Sunday to check whether there is any difficulties. He would be taken in observation for another 24 hours if necessary.

Namim’s family members seek prayers from country’s people.

On June 1, Nasim was admitted to Bangladesh Specialised Hospital with COVID-19 symptoms, including fever and breathing complications.

He later tested positive for COVID-19 and was rushed for a surgery on Friday after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

He was admitted to the hospital with about 50 per cent infection in his lung, Tanvir said, adding that his father was hospitalised in the day when his mother Laila Arjumand recovered from COVID-19 at the hospital.

The 74-year-old former minister had been suffering from different health complications, including high diabetes.
