Nitish Kumar resigns as Bihar CM

International Desk: Amid the political standoff in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has resigned. Mr. Kumar met Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi at the Raj Bhavan, reports thehindu.com on Wednesday.

Earlier, JD(U) sources had told media that Mr. Kumar may resign as alliance partner Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad had asserted that his son and Deputy CM Tejaswi Yadav would not resign over corruption charges.

Earlier, Mr. Kumar held a meeting with party legislators and leaders at his official residence and later drove to Raj Bhavan.

The RJD too held a meeting of party legislators to assert their stand that Mr. Tejaswi Yadav would not resign. RJD leaders also charged the BJP for orchestrating the rift in the Grand Alliance government in Bihar.

The JD(U) and Mr. Kumar have been insisting that Mr. Tejaswi Yadav come clean on the accusations in public which are politically being construed as the JD(U)’s demand for his resignation.
