OIC secretary general due in Dhaka tonight

Staff Correspondent: Dr Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, secretary general of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is due to arrive in Dhaka tonight (Wednesday) for a four-day visit to Bangladesh.

This is Dr Al-Othaimeen’s first visit to Bangladesh since he assumed the office of OIC secretary general.

The secretary general, who will lead a five-member delegation to Bangladesh, is scheduled to visit the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar to observe the state of the Rohingya Muslims who were forced to leave their homes in Rakhine, Myanmar to escape military persecution.

He will also be briefed by the local administration and representatives of international humanitarian organisations working there.

During his visit, Dr Al-Othaimeen will call on President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday.

He will also hold a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the State Guest House Padma.

As Bangladesh is going to host the 45th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers next year, this visit will allow discussion on Bangladesh-OIC Secretariat cooperation apart from various other areas of bilateral cooperation.
