Partha Gopal Bonik denied bail in graft case

The High Court has scrapped bail plea filed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prisons Partha Gopal Bonik in a graft case.

A virtual HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order on Wednesday (June 3), scrapping bail plea of the accused.

Partha's lawyers Barrister Shafiq Ahmed and Barrister Mahbub Shafiq Islam pleaded for his bail while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan opposed the plea.

Earlier on September 15 last year, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayesh rejected bail plea of the accused. Later, Partha filed a bail petition with the High Court.

Partha, who was working at Sylhet Central Jail, was shown arrested by ACC on July 28 last year as it recovered Tk80 lakh from his house at Dhanmondi North Road (Bhuter Gali) in Dhaka.

On July 30, the home ministry suspended Partha Gopal Banik from his post of the deputy inspector general (prisons) of Sylhet division in connection with the recovery of Tk80 lakh from his residence.
