Rape suspect killed in ‘gunfight’

Staff Correspondent: A youth was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Detective Branch (BD) Police in the capital’s Hatirjheel area early Friday, police said.


The deceased was identified as Apan (24), a suspect for abducting and raping a girl after killing a security guard at Uttara on 3 July.

 

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Saidur Rahman said, “The gunfight took place in the hourly hours of Friday. Two police members were also injured in the incident. Police recovered a pistol, white car and four bullets from the spot”.

 

The police officer said, “A gang of miscreants were planning to commit snatching in the area and they fired upon a police team on duty when they reached there. Policemen also fired back that triggered a clash, leaving Apan death on the spot”.


The death body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Saidur Rahman also said, “Apan was involved in the 3 July incident occurred in the capital’s Uttara area. On that night, miscreants abducted a student of Cambrian College from Uttara Sector- 4. The miscreants also shot to death a security guard, as he tried to resist the abductors. The miscreants left the girl in Uttara area on the next day after raping her.”


He also said there were many cases against Apan with Uttara, Badda and Gulshan police stations.
