Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) directed the authority concerned to reappoint the Ansar men among the 1,447 who were dismissed following Ansar mutiny considering their appropriate age-limit and physical capacity.

An HC bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Badruzzaman passed the order on Monday after hearings of separate writs filed by sacked members.

Barrister Syed Jahangir Hossain and Sahabuddin Khan Large moved for the petitioners while assistant attorney assistant Attorney General Protikar Chakma and Suchira Hossain stood for the state.

According to the case statement, in 1994, hundreds of Ansar members stood in rebellion against the authorities raising different demands which was controlled with Army interference.

Following the incident, a case was filed against 2,696 Ansar members leading to their termination from their jobs.

Later in the trial proceedings, a large number of Ansar men were relieved of the mutiny charges, and 1,447 of them filed petitions with the High Court seeking their jobs back.
