Rice prices to drop

Senior Correspondent: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said rice price will drop Tk 5 to Tk 6 per kilogram within a few days as the government has decided to lower the import duty on rice.
He said as per directives of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the rate of rice import duty has been decreased 10 percent from the existing 28 percent. So, rice price will lessen within a few days.
The Minister told this to the reporters at his office on Tuesday noon.
He said no crisis of rice in the country. Enough rice remained stored. Dishonest mill owners increased the price through syndicate. They are under the surveillance of government. Stern steps would be taken against those are behind the ill practice.
