Sifat gets bail

A Cox’s Bazar court has granted bail to Rifatul Islam Sifat, one of the co-workers of slain former army major Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

Tamanna Farah, acting judge of senior judicial magistrate court (Teknaf), passed the order after his lawyer placed a petition seeking bail on Monday.

Sifat’s lawyer Mahbub Alam Tipu confirmed this.

Earlier on Sunday, a Cox’s Bazar court granted bail to Stamford University student Shipra Rani Devnath, another co-worker of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed, in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Major (retd) Sinha was killed in a police firing at Baharchhara police check-post on July 31. Sharmen Shahria Ferdush, elder sister of Sinha, filed the murder case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday, accusing nine police personnel.

However, Sifat and Shipra were arrested after police filed separate cases against them.
