Roadmap a blueprint to bring AL in power: BNP

Senior Correspondent: BNP sees the roadmap announced by the Election Commission (EC) as a blueprint to bring Awami League again in the power.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the remark while addressing a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital on Tuesday noon.

"The Election Commission has announced the roadmap for the 11th general election where the nation's expectation was not reflected. The EC has just initiated a move to implement the blueprint which will help the Awami League to step in power again," Fakhrul told the press conference.

The entire nation is extremely disappointed at the roadmap, the BNP leader claimed.

He criticised the chief election commissioner for his failure to create a level playing field for political parties before announcing the roadmap for the next general election.

The roadmap is a part of conspiracy as it has been announced without resolving the issue of polls-time supportive government, Fakhrul said.

The Election Commission, for the next general election, unveiled the roadmap incorporating seven agenda as a booklet at a press briefing at ETI Auditorium of the capital's Agargaon around 11:30am on Sunday.

The seven agenda mentioned in the roadmap are electoral law reform, making electoral process time-befitting one, delimitation of constituencies, updating the voter list, preparing the list of possible polling stations, inviting application from new political parties to be registered with the EC, and the capacity building of officials for holding the national election.
