SIM sale to remain stop for 18 hrs from tonight

Staff Correspondent: Sale for cellular phone SIM cards will be remained stop for 18 hours--from 8:00pm on Wednesday to later on-- due to updating central biometric monitoring system.

After the system, SIM cards could be sold as regular.

According to Bangladesh Telecommunication Cotrol commission (BTRC) sources, operators could be sold SIM cards from Friday afternoon if the system is updated within the due time. Besides, If the system update has been completed before the fixed time, operator would get permission for sale.

State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim told the matter to the reporters in a programme at Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.

She said the government has set a limit of using cellular phone connections. A person can  register maximum 20 cellular phone SIM cards against his/her national identity card.

"If anyone has more than 20 SIM cards, those will be deactivated automatically," she added.
