Staff Correspondent: Siddiqur Rahman, a Titumir student who sustained serious injuries at his eyes during clash with police, is likely to lose his eyesight, according to physicians.

He was referred to Sher-e-Banglanagar Eye Hospital from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Students of seven colleges recently affiliated with Dhaka University locked into clash with police at the capital's Shahbag area on Thursday morning as law enforcers opposed them to observe sit-in programme, leaving three students injured.

Of the injured, Titumir College student Siddiqur Rahman and Dhaka College student Mainul Hassan were admitted to DMCH.

Later, Siddiqur was referred to Sher-e-Banglanagar Eye Hospital as he sustained serious injuries at his eyes, according to DMCH sources.

Students claimed that Siddiqur got injured at his eyes while police hurled tear gas and shells at them.

However, Abul Hassan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbag Police Station, rejected their claims.

He said Siddiqur received injuries at his eyes when students threw flowerpots at vehicles.

Students were demonstrating at Shahbag demanding immediate announcement of examination schedules.

The agitating students were from Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawrdy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.
