Siddiqur's eye sight: Final outcome in 4 to 6 weeks

Staff Correspondent: It may take four to six weeks to know whether Siddiqur Rahman, Titumir College student who lost eye sights by police teargas, can see with his left eye, according to Indian physicians.

His friend Sheikh Farid told this to risingbd.

Siddiqur underwent fresh surgery at his left eye at Sankara Nethralaya in India's Chennai on Friday. Bandage was removed on Saturday.

Zahidul Ahsan Menon, assistant professor of National Institute of Ophthalmology in Dhaka, and his the victim's elder brother Nawab Ali are accompanying Siddiqur in Chennai. They along with the patient may return home on August 11.

Quoting Zahidul Ahsan Menon, Sheikh Farid said Siddiqur perceives little light after the bandage of his left eye was removed. The development is a ray of hope for Siddiqur. To assess his visual outcome, it might take four to six weeks.

On July 20, students of seven Dhaka University-affiliated colleges, including Titumir, were demonstrating at the capital's Shahbagh to press for their seven-point demand that included announcement of their exam dates.

While dispersing the protesters, a policeman shot a teargas canister directly at some agitating students. A video footage of the incident shows Siddiqur collapsed on the street instantly.
