Sinha murder: 4 cops among 7 accused remanded

A court in Cox's Bazar placed seven people, including four policemen, on seven-day remand each in a case filed over the killing of Major (retd) Md Rashed Khan Sinha.

Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Tamanna Farah passed the remand order after hearing the separate petitions on Wednesday (August 12).

The four policemen who were placed on remand are assistant sub-Inspector (ASI) Litan Miah and constables Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain and Abdullah Al Mamun.

Other three people are Md Nurul Amin, Md Nizam Uddin and Mohammad Ayaj. They are residents of Marishbunia area of Baharchhara union in Teknaf. These three people were made witnesses in the murder case filed by police.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Jamil Ul Haque, investigation officer of the case from Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), produced the accused before the court with 10-day remand prayer for each.

Earlier on the night of July 31, Major (retd) Md Rashed Khan Sinha was killed in police firing during the search at Baharchhara check post in Teknaf. Following the incident, police filed three separate cases—two with Teknaf police station and one with Ramu police station. In this case, police sent Shahedul Islam Sifat and Shipra Rani Deb, who were with Major Sinha during his killing, after showing them arrested.

On August 5, Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahria Ferdous filed a murder case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court against nine people including ex-Teknaf officer-in-charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar and prime accused Inspector Liaqat Ali, who shot Sinha dead.

Meanwhile, Sifat and Shipra Rani have been released on bail in the three cases filed by police.
