Bangladesh into semis as England beat Australia

Sports Desk: England defeated Australia by 40 runs in D/L method in the Champions Trophy on Saturday, sending Bangladesh to the semifinals of ICC 2017.

Bangladesh are the second team to qualify for the semis from Group A in the ICC Champions Trophy-2017 at Edgbaston of Birmingham on Saturday.

Host England score 240 runs with losing four wickets after 40.2 overs to chase Australia's 278-run target before rain. 

An unexpected run-out of Eoin Morgan (87) broke a 159-run partnership between Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes when England were 194/4 at 31.5 overs.

Ben Stokes hit a career-best 102 not out and captain Eoin Morgan took 87 runs facing 81 balls.

Australia's Hazlewood grabbed wickets of England's Alex Hales (0) and Joe Root (15) while Mitchell Starc took the wicket of Jason Roy (4).

Earlier, Mark Wood and Adil Rashid both took four wickets as Australia were held to 277 for nine after losing the toss.

BA Stokes have won ‘Player of the match’ award for his outstanding performance.
