Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: Two lighter vessels capsized in the Bay and two others got stranded in Karnaphuli River of Chittagong on Monday due to stormy wind and rough weather.

Two capsized lighter vessels are— MV Olympic-2 and MV Haji Kayes.

Last night, lighter vessel Olympic-2 unloaded cement clinker from a ship at the outer anchorage of the Chittagong port but due to bad weather it anchored near the coast.

Early today, the lighter vessel tilted and developed cracks. The vessel eventually capsized near Bhatiari around noon.

However, the crew members of Olympic-2 managed to return ashore safely.

Another lighter vessel, Haji Kayes, was also anchored at the outer anchorage of the port and was damaged after hitting another vessel due to the rough weather this morning.

It eventually capsized around noon.

Jafor Ahmed, director (admin) of the Chittagong port, confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.
